What paint finish should we go with? Who will do the best job and provide what we want for our home? These are all questions you want to be answered before making any commitment. So how can you tell if a contractor is good? There are a few ways you can do this. When considering which painters to utilize, be sure to do or determine each of the following:

1. What kind of work has the contractor been doing?
2. Do they provide estimates in writing (a good sign)?
3. Are they licensed and registered with the local authorities?
4. Does the contractor have references from satisfied customers?
5. Have they been in business for long enough to prove their experience?
6. Have they been open and honest about the costs involved?
7. Is there a warranty given in writing?
8. Can you contact them by phone or e-mail to ask any questions or concerns you have?
9. Do you have serious doubts about their work, answers, or your decision to go with them?
10. Do they make a point of being available if you have questions or concerns?
11. Do they give you ample lead time to paint?
12. Have they given you any written guarantees on cost, quality, etc., to protect you from any inconvenience, extra costs, time delay or other concerns?
13. Are they available to answer all your questions and concerns during the job?
14. Are they willing to meet with you before starting a project together?

So you should have clear pictures in your mind of what you want and expect from a contractor to help you make the best decision. If you do, it will make choosing your contractor a lot easier.
