Exterior painting prep work process.
Power washing is the most important preparatory step. It removes dirt and loose paint particles from your house or business, making it easier to get out the new coat of paint. It also opens up the surface to better absorb the paint.
After power washing, the surface is ready for scraping. Scraping removes loose paint and prepares the surface for a new coat of paint. We recommend the use of a medium to large hand-held paint scraper that has a replaceable blade.
Sanding is the final step of preparing the surface. Sanding smooths, evens and prepares the surface for painting. It also removes any unevenness in your house or business that may show up during your paint job. We recommend the use of a medium to large hand-held power sander with a sanding belt.
Caulking is a very important step that many people forget or overlook. It removes any gaps that may have formed between your home and the window frames, baseboards and door trim.
There are two types of caulk:
A. Silicone Caulk for around windows, doors and other water-tight areas.
B. Acrylic Sealant for any surfaces that will be painted, such as wood and concrete.
After your house or business is power washed, scraped, sanded and caulked, it is ready for priming. Your home or business painting project will be easier and look better if it is primed. Priming prepares the surface for painting by creating a smooth finish and sealing the surface from any moisture, dirt or other elements.
